The Fastest Racket Sport in the World
Badminton Eastland is active in encouraging juniors to enjoy competitive badminton play and help them develop their badminton skills. Our junior representative and development squads are formed through running trials for these teams generally in March/April. From the trials we select the juniors based on ability, attitude and level of commitment.Â
The make up of the squads is an U13, U15, U17 and U19. The age cut off for these groups is that you must be younger the age of the team as at 31st December. Once the squads are formed, training starts in Term 2 and runs till the end of October.
There are a lot of badminton competitions around NZ our juniors could attend. The main event for our juniors which we attend as a club is the National Junior Teams event in Palmerston North which is generally held in the first week of school holidays after term 2. We look at taking the squads we have teams for, for example, U13 made up of 6 traveling players, U15 made up of 10 traveling players, U17 made up of 10 traveling players and U19 made up of 6 traveling players. The players are split between males and females.
There are also national age group competitions organised around NZ. Our Association will promote these events to our juniors and encourage you to attend. At these events we maybe able to help with transport, it just depends on who is going and how many people.
